About Us
Starwood wants to share its hospitality with travelers worldwide. Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, the largest brand in Starwood Hotels & Resort’s portfolio, operates a leading chain of upscale hotels located around the globe. The company’s properties target both business and leisure travelers with full-service accommodations, fine dining, and other amenities. Its Four Points by Sheraton brand properties typically feature smaller locations with limited service and amenities such as high speed Internet access and fitness centers. Sheraton was founded in 1937 by Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore. The chain was acquired by Starwood in 1998.
Geographic Reach
Sheraton operates more than 400 properties in some 70 countries worldwide. Its Four Points by Sheraton brand includes approximately 160 additional properties.
Strategy
Sheraton recently completed a $6 billion global revitalization and is in the midst of a $6 billion global expansion over the next three years. The company has ambitious international expansion plans as it expects an influx of new international travelers from emerging markets, specifically in Eastern European and Asian countries. Sheraton plans to open new hotels in the US, China, Colombia, India, Russia, Slovakia, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The company completed the $45 million renovation of the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in 2013, which includes state-of-the-art meeting facilities. During 2014 it expanded to Thailand with the opening of the Sheraton Samui Resort in Koh Samui, Thailand. Sheraton also renovated its large hotels in Toronto, Canada and Recife, Brazil among others during 2014.
